Dr. Christine M. VanZomeren, a research ecologist with the Environmental Laboratory, focuses on restoring and sustaining ecological function in coastal marshes affected by sea level rise. Coastal marshes are critical for ecological and storm protection functions, and therefore are a national concern. Marsh restoration must be considered in the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers' water resource management mission and flood risk management to continue providing ecosystem services to the nation.
